All donations raised through MOMO Fest have gone to various charitable projects of MIT Group Foundation in improving the education and health sector in third world countries like Nepal.

 

This year, the donations collected will be going to fund the construction of Janapriya High School, in Darbang, Malika Rural-municipality-6, Myagdi Nepal.

 

Janapriya High School is the oldest school of Myagdi district. It was established in 1951. Malika rural municipality, the local government, directs and monitors the school now. The school is about 26 km from Beni, the district headquarters. It is one of the most important market hubs of western Myagdi.

 

The catchment area of the school is very large with the students coming from these surrounding villages: • Darbang • Niskot • Devisthan • Okharbot • Ruma • Bima (Malika rural municipality), • Takam.

The majority of the students from those villages belong to the indigenous, Dalit underprivileged communities.

 

The current school and its surrounding buildings are in a state of disrepair. The catastrophic effects of both earthquakes and flooding in recent years have caused significant damage to the property that was already in need of substantial repair work. As it stands the safety of over 600 students attending the school is at high risk with the technically unsound infrastructure of the school. Unfortunately the local government and the school board itself does not have the budget to facilitate the construction of a much needed new school building by itself.

 

With external donor partners like MIT Group Foundation, the project can help in building new and safer school premises and directly invest in the future of these children of the large catchment area for the foreseeable future to achieve a quality education to the indigenous, Dalit and underprivileged students in the community.
